smileys

Well, Mike, Lloyd and Popeye, I have a new Le Creuset cast iron grill pan!  Not only do I have cast iron, I have class!  Actually, I love their pans and my son got it for me as either an early birthday present (February) or a late Christmas one.  I don't think I have to season this one, but I haven't used it yet so will let you know.  And aren't those puff pancake makers called something in Swedish?  Abelskivers?  They have been around for as long as I can remember.

By the way Mike, it is in the 40's here and we are supposed to get a mix of rain and snow on Thursday.  So, no, I don't have the air conditioning on down here.  Maybe someone farther south perhaps?

This morning I was rudely awakened at 4:15 a.m. by water dripping down from my ceiling.  The cat almost got a bath!  Seems my upstair's neighbors toilet overflowed.  I now have a hole about 3 inches in diameter in my ceiling and a very large bucket in my dining area with water in it.  So, I was up until the maintenance guy left at 5:15 a.m.    The cat didn't like the bucket and after I went back to bed, she tried to knock it over.  Can't wait to see what the place looks like when I get home.  Guess I will be getting that renter's insurance I haven't been willing to buy or move my book case one.

Got to go answer telephones for the second day in a row for our 'sick' receptionist.

Later,

Mary

Mary, yes you have class, but somebody is short alots of money now. And no that type doesn't need to be cure, it's enamel coated, it comes in several colors. There is a rip off now which is about half of the price and from what I see is just as good. But then that has happen to the whole Cast Iron industry. Lodge use to be about the only ones still around, then pepole started importing them from China and at first they weren't that good.  However, now the are very good and about half the price of Lodge.  Lodge have lower their prices somewhat, and I buy American whenever I can, But they don't have a large selection, so when I find a pot or pan I don't have and I can use it, I buy it.Surprise, surprise.

Two of my favorites is my 5 and 7 Qt Casserole Pans, then I just recently found two small square skillets with weights, they are great for sandwitches or doing small serving of bacon or whatever.

Most of mine are still in Houston, but will get here sooner or later.

Mikee, here's a new plow for you, now you won't need a new blade. smileysOr maybe this one will work. smileysOk, so I know it won't really work for you, but I thought I would give it a try.

I could see Mike and Lloyd doing this if Lloyd was up there: smileys

Of course, I could also see them trying this: smileys

Mary ... you are close, they are Danish and are AEbelskiver. We have made the trip to Danish days in Ashcove about 2 hours away. They have a couple dozen pans going at all times.

Your right Lloyd, they just put a new name on an old pan. I have the recipe for AEbelskives also.

Mary - enjoy your LeCreuset grill pan.  What color do you have?

My 'oldest' LeCreuset pans (large skillet, Dutch oven, au gratin) will soon be having their 47th birthday!  And they are still in good shape and more than usuable.     We were still living in the Mediterranean area when we bought them - and the price was very affordable.   And much more available than Lodge... tho I did get a 'griddle' - can't remember the brand but it, too, is in good shape .. of course, its only about 30 years old!

Sometimes, Lloyd, one can get good deals on them at outlets, etc.  And I bought a set at a garage sale a few years ago for $30 .... never used - in their box ... 15 pieces if one counted covers!   They made a very nice wedding gift for a niece.    We've also won a few LeCreuset pots/pans in recipe contests.  Some we've kept - some have been sent off as gifts.   So don't knock them .... when they're that inexpensive .. and so BEAUTIFUL (they have so many terrific colors now ) and very well made.  I've heard that a few of the 'newer' ones - Mario B's and another brand I can't think of - didn't test too well - don't remember if it was Consumers or Cooks Illustrated.

I do like my Lodge items too .. and hope to get back to their outlet in TN some time.   Terrific $$$ savings on seconds etc ... and you hardly can tell they are 2nds.

Again, just my opinion.  Enjoy yours Mary!

Mike, We don't have the air conditioning on here either.  It's cold and raining! Brrr!!!!  Any bites on a job yet? I'm praying for you.

Not much going on around here. Another day another dollar.  Oops, it's only a quarter now due to inflation. I got my cost of living raise today & that's about all it was. Guess I should be glad I got anything.

Bethany, Keep working at it & you may get your house finished. I don't envy you at all. So much to do to sell the house.

Mindy? Where you been? Are you feeling all right? Miss you.

There are a lot of missing people. Is it too cold all over for people to write? Where is everybody?

MargieHere's my buddy.

You can't go wrong with cast iron. My grandpa had a CI skillet and it was used a lot.  He's been gone for five years now, and my mom now has it and uses it. If I am able to make it to the gathering I would like to check out the place that Lloyd mentioned. Once knew a lady who said that she clocked her husband upside the head with a CI skillet.

I guess he did something pretty bad. Me thinks that is not how they are intended to be used.

Well I went to that yoga class tonight and I am already a wee bit sore. I bet I am feeling real peachy tomorrow. Some of the poses we did that targeted the abs were a little strenuous. I could feel some of my muscles shaking.  This is not a class to wear tight workout pants too,  one wrong move and yer britches would rip!!! smileysNever understood how people could stand their pants fitting so tight.

Mikey, did you actually admitt to getting your butt kicked at something by a woman??? Wow!! Tell Bonnie I said You Go Girl! LOL I could see how you guys would enjoy your wii so much. Be kind of fun to have at the gathering and play against each other. Good luck with your snow plow. My dad got a snow blower,  it's one of his favorite "toys."

Were supposed to get a bunch of snow here starting tomorrow, which is a bummer because we have had some really nice weather. Knew it was too good to last.

Love ya all bunches,

Snickers

Hellooooo Family.

JB (short for JellyBean) Believe me I surely would not knock that brand, by far the best on the market, but Pricey. When Mom (Tommie's Mother) Pass over, she knew her time was near a few months before and started giving me her cookware she wanted me to have. One is a waffle iron with the date 1826 on it, which was passed down from mother to daughter for at least 3 generations. Another is a  covered 2qt pan on legs. The lid has a "Lip" to hold the coals on top, and the legs was for " standing" over the coals. This pan had been used so much that the Lip is almost razor sharp because of the wear and tear on it.  Tommie said she it went back 4Gen.  Another is a Dutch Oven/Skillet combination (the lid doubles as a skillet.) And the youngest (or newest) is a Grisewold Square Skillet. Don't know the date on it, but think Mom got it about 1930 or so. It still make darn good cornbread, and since moving up here has been getting a work out. Of course I have tons more but these are my pride and joy because Mom pass them on to me.  And all of my are near matching color, Black, or near black in the newer pieces, but they will get there.

And with proper curing and jusssst the right amount of heat, Cast iron is also non-stick too.

Since we have been attending the Church's luncheon, my 5 and 7 Qt Casserole pan has been getting a work out.

Well I guess if I post any more about Cast Iron, this posting might get too heavy to load, hu.

God bless and keep smiling
